Most engineering students graduate without ever getting to work with a silicon wafer. Most people first encounter a chip once it is finished.
fabr. is building fabrication kits that universities can use to set up labs of their own. Students should be able to handle the tools, change a setting, make a mistake and try again, with machines that are understandable enough to tinker with.
We want more people to have that first encounter with a wafer, while there is still room to ask what happens if they do it differently.
